By the time I hit my early 30s, I had what most people would call “success.” I earned my Ph.D., got married, and landed a prestigious job as a Clinical Psychology Professor. I was seeing patients, conducting cutting-edge research on treatment for anxiety and depression, and training future therapist. On paper, it looked like I had it all together. But behind the scenes? I was running on fumes.
I was Overcommitted, overwhelmed, and constantly chasing the next achievement just to prove I was “enough.”
Then I had a kid. I realized I couldn’t keep up the relentless pace I’d been living—and honestly, I didn’t want to. But everywhere I turned, the messages told me I had to give 100% in every area of my life: work, family, community, self-care (oh, and look fabulous doing it). The more I tried, the angrier I got. The expectations placed on women are ridiculous.
